For uplifting the living
condition of struggling workers of the industry, All India Textile Workers
Federation has appealed to the Centre for constituting a wage board.
On Thursday, resolutions were
passed and adopted at the Federation meeting.
While explaining these
resolutions, AITUC Tamil Nadu State Unit Secretary T M Moorthy said, “the
textile industry workers are severely affected by the policies of the
government. Nearly 3.5 crore workers are directly employed in the textile sector,
which at times witnessed a boom and at times low. Only 30 per cent of the
workers are now permanent employees and the rest are working on contract.
The workers' wages and other
benefits are not protected as a result, the workers are struggling to make a
living facing.”
