The Photo Walk was part of a globally celebrated event to
celebrate photography. The walk started from the Goubert Market at 6 am and
went on till almost 10 in the morning. The leader of the Photo Walk was a young
photographer, Prabha Kar, who hails from Pondicherry .
The walk was an all-inclusive and free to participate event,
where anyone and everyone who possessed a camera could participate. The aim of
the event was to bring together photographers from different walks of life and
in the process share ideas, pick up tips and take photographs.
The origins of World
Photo Day:
The origin of World Photo Day can be traced as far back as
1837, the year in which daguerreotype, a photographic process was developed by
Joseph Nicèphore Nièpce and Louis Daguerre. In 1839 the French Academy
of Sciences announced the daguerreotype process. A few months later, on August
19, 1839, the French government purchased the patent, announcing the invention
as a gift “Free to the World”.
